AB 1700 (Elderly Protection-Reverse Mortgages): Protected prospective reverse mortgage borrowers by assuring that all clients have consulted with a HUD-approved reverse mortgage counselor, and have discussed the items of the loan, and items of the reverse mortgage worksheet guide at least seven days prior to finalizing the loan. Allowing a seven day cooling off period—evidenced by the date of a counseling certificate—between the time of counseling, and the time to proceed with the loan would provide the elderly client with much needed time to review and discuss the numerous documents, fees, signed disclosures, and potential outcomes with their families.
