July is an important month in American history. We celebrate our county’s independence on July 4, when thirteen colonies declared themselves a nation. Almost two hundred years later, on July 2 1964, the Civil Rights Act was enacted, outlawing discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. And yet another step forward was taken on July 26, 1990 with the Americans with Disabilities Act, which protected the rights of millions of Americans with physical and mental disabilities.
While we celebrate the landmark steps our country has taken in the past, I hope they remind us of how much we have yet to do. As always, if you have comments or questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office. It is a privilege to be your representative for the 61st Assembly District.
