District Update

Thursday, August 31, 2017

During the month of September, we honor our workers, remember the tragic events of September 11th, and celebrate the founding of the United States Air Force.

On Labor Day, we proudly honor the American labor movement and the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, laws and well-being of our country.

During this month, we also remind ourselves to never forget those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 – the day our nation suffered one of the worst terrorist attacks in its history.

Lastly, on September 18th, we mark the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the United States Air Force. I would like to wish the Air Force and all of its members a very happy birthday, especially those serving at the March Air Reserve Base today!

August is the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which prohibited racial discrimination in voting, and reminds us of the foundational importance that voting has in our democracy. This August, we will also experience a total eclipse of the sun; the last time this happened in the contiguous United States was 1979. While our power grid will certainly function as normal, small steps to conserve energy during the eclipse will ease additional stress on the grid.

July 2017 Medina Messenger

Wednesday, July 5, 2017

Dear Friend,

July is an important month in American history. We celebrate our county’s independence on July 4, when thirteen colonies declared themselves a nation.  Almost two hundred years later, on July 2 1964, the Civil Rights Act was enacted, outlawing discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.  And yet another step forward was taken on July 26, 1990 with the Americans with Disabilities Act, which protected the rights of millions of Americans with physical and mental disabilities.

While we celebrate the landmark steps our country has taken in the past, I hope they remind us of how much we have yet to do. As always, if you have comments or questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office. It is a privilege to be your representative for the 61st Assembly District.

June 2017 Medina Messenger

Friday, June 9, 2017

Dear Friends,

As a former teacher, I always associate June as graduation month, where we celebrate the accomplishments of our students. Team Medina had the opportunity to meet with many talented students throughout the 61st Assembly District, such as the CyberPatriot Teams from Canyon Springs and Valley View High Schools. I was also delighted to honor several teachers from our district during the Day of the Teacher Luncheon held in May.

As always, if you have comments or questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office. It is a privilege to be your representative for the 61st Assembly District.

Sincerely,

A NOTE FROM JOSE

Dear Friends,

May is a month to reflect upon the atrocities of the past. The Holocaust Day of Remembrance is when the Assembly honors survivors and their families throughout California. The end of May is also Memorial Day, where we remember the men and women who lost their lives defending our nation and its values.

February 2017 Medina Report

A NOTE FROM JOSE

Dear Friends,

This is an uncertain time for many people, but my colleagues and I in the Assembly promise to protect all Californians and their families. This month is particularly relevant in today’s discussions about civil rights and justice as we remember and honor Japanese residents interned during World War II and commemorate Black History month. The issues surrounding health care, access, and equity also resonate in February, which is American Heart Month.
