CALIFORNIA - Gov. Jerry Brown said this past week that California faces no budget deficit for the first time since the recession.

He maintained that the state still faces fiscal risks, but that California's new budget, "…is a breakthrough."

A balanced budget for California is good news for the state's institutions of higher education. The University of California and California State University systems will receive an additional $250 million in the proposed budget which would restore cuts made during the fiscal crisis.
