SACRAMENTO— Today, Assemblymember Jose Medina (D-Riverside), Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee, and Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell (D-Long Beach), Chair of the Assembly Education Committee are holding a Joint Legislative Oversight Hearing to discuss California’s growing teacher shortage.
“A strong teacher workforce is critical to the success of our students and to ensuring the long-term growth of California’s thriving economy. This joint hearing will be an opportunity for policymakers and leaders in higher education to better understand California’s shortage of credentialed teachers and the unique challenges facing rural communities. My hope is that this hearing will galvanize next steps to increasing the amount of well trained and qualified teachers throughout the state.”
The joint hearing will be held in the State Capitol, Room 437 at 1:30 p.m.
