SACRAMENTO — Assemblymember Jose Medina (D-Riverside), Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee, released the following statement on the approval of the ethnic studies model curriculum by the State Board of Education.
“California has one of the largest and most diverse student populations in the nation. The Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum will give students the opportunity to see themselves reflected in their studies. It will allow students to become more engaged and informed members of our community. The importance of Ethnic Studies has been reflected its implementation throughout school districts in the State; the Model Curriculum will serve as a tool in the toolbox for teachers. I thank the State Board of Education for their continued work, their engagement with stakeholders, and efforts in the midst of a pandemic.”
