Assemblymember Medina and Colleagues Stand in Support of DACA Dreamers
SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblymember Medina stood alongside both the Latino Legislative Caucus and Asian Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus, during a joint press conference in opposition to President Trump’s attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood (DACA) program.
“I am deeply disheartened and disappointed in what I see happening on the federal level with respect to the DACA program,” said Medina. “As a former high school teacher, I know many of these students have spent almost their whole lives here in the United States. They are promising, outstanding students, and we want them to stay.”
The DACA program includes 800,000 Dreamers across the country. The discontinuation of the program would mean the uprooting of lives, separation of families, as well as a threat to the moral fabric of the country.
“These Dreamers are our friends, our neighbors, our cousins, our brothers, our sisters. I would encourage the President to rethink his decision, to think carefully. We are a country of immigrants and we welcome people. I very strongly encourage the President to allow these students to remain here. It is the right thing to do.”
Assemblymember Medina proudly represents California’s 61st Assembly District, which consists of Riverside, Moreno Valley, and Perris.
