Assemblymember Medina Responds to Governor Brown’s State of the State Address
SACRAMENTO— Assemblymember Jose Medina (D-Riverside) released the following statement on Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr.’s State of the State address:
“I want to thank Governor Brown for his service to California over the past eight years. He entered into his third term as governor at a tumultuous time and guided California out of a great recession. I applaud Governor Brown’s leadership in establishing a “rainy day” fund to ensure that California continues to prosper long-term.
However, at a time when California has reached a new height of economic prosperity, I believe we have a responsibility to do more to keep our institutions of higher education affordable for our students. Too many young people in this state struggle to pay for college and are stacked with insurmountable debt before entering the workforce creating systemic problems that have lasting impacts on our economy. Greater investment in higher education is essential to the growth and prominence of California. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Legislature and the Governor in his final year to ensure that high quality education is accessible to all students.”
Assemblymember Medina proudly represents California’s 61st Assembly District, which consists of Riverside, Moreno Valley, and Perris.
