Assemblymember Medina’s Statement on the Passing of Community Leader, Woodie Rucker Hughes

Friday, July 13, 2018

SACRAMENTO— Assemblymember Jose Medina (D-Riverside) released the following statement in response to the passing of Woodie Rucker Hughes:

“I am very saddened to hear the news that my dear friend and colleague, Woodie Rucker Hughes, passed away this morning in Riverside. I had the honor of working with Woodie at Riverside Unified School District, where she was a fierce advocate for homeless students in our community. Woodie was a tireless activist, past president of the NAACP Riverside Branch, and a leader of the Eastside Think Tank. In each role she took on she consistently uplifted the underrepresented voices in our community. Woodie’s passing will leave a large void in the leadership of the City of Riverside and the region at-large. She will be greatly missed.”
