Assemblymember Medina’s Statement on UC’s Decision to Reduce Tuition for the 2018-19 School Year

Thursday, July 19, 2018

SACRAMENTO— Assemblymember Jose Medina (D-Riverside) released the following statement on the University of California’s announcement that it will reduce tuition for in-state students for the first time in 19 years:

“I am thrilled that the UC Board of Regents has decided to decrease tuition. The state and the UC have a responsibility to keep the cost of college down and ensure that California’s students have access to a high quality education. My colleagues in the State Legislature and I have fought alongside students to increase funding of the UC in the state budget and continue to advocate for affordable access. This decision is a meaningful step in the right direction in addressing college affordability and I applaud UC leadership for choosing to support students.”
