Assemblymember Medina Responds to the Governor's State of the State Address

Thursday, January 21, 2016

(Sacramento) - California State Assemblymember Jose Medina (D-Riverside) was pleased with the overall tone of Governor Jerry Brown's annual State of the State Address to a joint session of the California Legislature. Immediately following the Governor's annual speech, Assemblymember Medina, Chair of the Assembly Committee on Higher Education, voiced his concerns that we are not doing enough to ensure higher education opportunities for Californians.

"The Governor delivered his State of the State today," said Assemblymember Medina. "While I strongly support fiscal responsibility to prepare for future economic changes, it is important to recognize the role that higher education plays in ensuring economic success. Continued support of all three systems of public higher education, California Community Colleges, California State Universities, and the University of California campuses is vital to California's prosperity. However, I am concerned that the Governor's priorities for this year do not adequately ensure access for California's students."
