Assemblymember Medina Wants to Increase the Number of Cal Grant Awards

(Sacramento) – California State Assemblymember Jose Medina (D-Riverside) spoke before the Senate Education Committee regarding Assembly Bill 1721, which would expand financial aid for California’s college students.  AB 1721 aims to increase the number of competitive Cal Grant awards from 25,700 to 34,000.  The legislation also proposes reserving 19,000 competitive Cal Grants for California Community College students among other enhancements.  AB 1721 passed by a unanimous vote of the committee and now heads to the State Senate Floor for consideration.  Watch this Assembly Access Video to see a portion of Assemblymember Medina’s presentation before the committee.
