Improving College Readiness and Degree Attainment in the Inland Empire

University of California, Riverside
Alumni & Visitors Center
3701 Canyon Crest Drive
Riverside, CA 92507

The Higher Education Committee will review existing education programs and partnerships for students and discuss strengths and challenges in ensuring all IE students, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status are prepared to attend college and attain pertinent college degrees and certificates.

Research shows that California’s baccalaureate attainment rate has not kept pace with the rest of the nation.  Sadly, California ranks 45th among the states in terms of bachelor’s degrees conferred relative to the college age population.  More specific to the Inland Empire (IE), research shows that the IE has a significantly lower postsecondary education attainment rate and lesser levels of college readiness among its high school graduates compared to the rest of California.

In the highly diverse IE, this low ranking presents a great challenge in maintaining educational equity for all students and has profound long-term consequences for all communities within the IE.

I hope this public oversight hearing will promote continued discussion over an important issue affecting our community.

Road Closure Notice

By fully closing the roadway, these significant construction efforts can be consolidated into one weekend, rather than extending the project over multiple weekends. The full closure will also help ensure the safety of construction crews and the traveling public by eliminating cars and construction equipment on the road.

To minimize travel delays and impacts during the closure, Riverside County Transportation Commission's strongly recommends that motorists plan ahead and completely avoid travel on and near the 91 in Corona. If travel cannot be avoided, motorists can use the 57, 60 and I-10 as alternate routes. Motorists traveling on the 91, 71 or I-15 near the project area during the closure period can expect delays of three to four hours. Please see detour map below.

Once the weekend construction activities are completed, more work is on the way for the Maple Street area during the coming months. Crews will rebuild the Maple Street bridge and construct the flyover ramp bridge across the 91. Nightly full closures of eastbound 91 likely will be required for about a week following the full weekend closure; additional periodic nighttime closures will occur in the future. Once the flyover ramp bridge at Maple Street is completed this summer, another full closure of the 91 may take place to remove the temporary support beams that will be placed during the weekend of February 19-22.

For questions, please call the project helpline at (877) 770-9191 or visit We thank you for your patience and understanding.
